The HAWK is an AI dashcam with LTE connectivity used for measuring human driving. It runs an edge compute model locally to detect driving incidents such as the vehicle running red lights, failing to signalling when changing lanes, or even when the driver is distracted. Incidents are reported to the fleet manager, and the driver’s performance is scored appropriately.

After 6 months of development my team was able to take this inital idea to market. This device found its way into taxi fleets across north america as well as vehicles used in the gigs economy (Lyft, and Ubers) in majors cities like Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Project contributions:

  • Design of dual camera IR night vision system

  • Thermal management

  • Design of cable harness and connector solution

  • GPS design, testing and validation

  • LTE integration with north american carriers: Bell, AT&T, T-Mobile, Telus

  • CAN signal decoding and developing software interpreters for popular vehicles: Mercedes, Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda etc.

  • Installation of dashcams across North America

  • Oversee manufacturing, assembly and testing of HAWK AI dashcams

  • Design of test jigs to validate PCB and HAWK AI dashcams
